About Dr. Perkins and Direct Primary Care
Dr. Steven Perkins
After many years practicing as a senior Software Consultant with Siemens Healthcare, I transitioned to medicine, graduating from the Indiana University School of Medicine with Honors. Following completion of the St. Vincent Internal Medicine residency in 2013, my growing family made a huge leap of faith and relocated from our lifelong home in the northern Indianapolis suburbs to Corydon. From the very first visit to Harrison County, something just felt like home.

For the next 10 years, I proudly served as the Director of the Hospitalist program at Harrison County Hospital. During that time, I have also served as Chief of Internal Medicine, Chief Medical Officer, and served on the Medical Executive Committee. Chances are, over the course of that time, if I haven't provided care for you directly, then I likely have cared for a beloved family member. I take pride in the fact that we were able to deliver the best quality of care to patients right here in our community.

As time has passed, I began to find that hospitals were shifting more and more toward corporate management companies, insurance providers continuing to dictate which provider a patient can see, and too much time spent on tasks not involving patient care. It had gotten to the point that a person is lucky if they can get in to see the nurse practitioner six months out for a fifteen minute visit.
I am now preparing to begin private practice in Corydon and couldn't be more excited. For all of those changes in medicine, all of the bureaucracy, all of the lack of access to quality care, insurance companies dictating care, my focus remains solely on the comprehensive care and well-being of the patient, right here in the community my family calls home.
Come and join the Direct Primary Care movement.
What is Direct Primary Care
Direct Primary Care is an innovative membership-based healthcare delivery model that removes corporate healthcare from the doctor-patient relationship. Direct Primary Care is old-fashioned care. DPC doctors are able to spend the time to get to know you as an individual, taking the time to listen to our patients and working in collaboration to develop an individualized care and wellness plan.

DPC cuts out the middle-man, cuts overhead, removes obstacles to care...no insurance hassles, just you and the doctor. No co-pays or deductibles. More time spent with the physician thanks to reduced administrative demands, and lower patient censuses. Instead of 5,000 patients, my total patient census will range between 300-500. Appointments ranging between 30-60 minutes means more face-to-face time with the doctor.
Benefits of Direct Primary Care
Choice - You choose your provider, not the insurance company.
Access - No more waiting months for a 15 minute problem-focused visit with the Nurse Practitioner. Lower census allows more access and more time.

Transparency- No hidden fees, no deductibles, no out-of-pockets.

Face-to-face- Goodbye to 15 minute problem-based visits, hello to 30-60 minute comprehensive appointments

Comprehensive physical examination- No stone un-turned, so to speak. The goal is identifying problems early and optimizing health and function

Care Coordination- Access, referral, and coordination of care utilizing an extensive network of sub-specialists.

Testimonials
"My husband was recently treated by Dr. Perkins at Harrison County Hospital. He was admitted with an extreme case of pneumonia. He made the decision to put my husband on a ventilator under sedation for 3 days. He kept us informed about every aspect and detail that was happening. I was actually impressed at how often came in the room.I highly recommend Dr.Perkins. He is an asset to Harrison County Hospital. He saved my husband's life with the care that he gave him."
"As both an employee interacting with Dr. Perkins and as a family
member of a patient once under his care, I can speak to what a great
person Dr. Perkins is. People just love to be around him and he has a
knack for making friends with everyone! He treats everyone with the same
courtesy, caring, and respect, and you can bet he'll get you with a joke at
some point."
